Who likes music?!

I’ve never heard the original version (which is great) but Viola Wills made it her own in the 80s. The modern version is a cover of that but nicely done.

If it’s PMB, I’m listening.

I love the PMJ. I’ve really been liking Morgan James covers. What I like about this video is all PMJ videos are recorded live so she had no idea of the tambourine guys antics behind her.

That is one enthusiastic tambourine player!

He is cracking me up

Well … now I had to go listen to the 1957 original  It was one of my Grandmothers favorite songs and one of her favorite vacation spots. I’ve been there many a time

She loved most everything Patti Page sang.

If you’re fond of sand dunes and salty air
Quaint little villages here and there
You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

If you like the taste of lobster stew
Served by a window with an ocean view
You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

Winding roads that seem to beckon you
Miles of green beneath the skies of blue
Church bells chimin’ on a Sunday morn’
Remind you of the town where you were born

If you spend an evening you’ll want to stay
Watching the moonlight on Cape Cod Bay
You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

Yep it’s a great song and I’m usually skeptical of sampling in general, but this is done with respect towards the original and my god that trombone…

A recent BBC Documentary introduced me to a sadly forgotten talent, Ottilie Patterson - what a voice

Wow, that was fabulous.

In stark contrast, stylistically, the drum nerd I am offers…

We like this boy. I saw Pineapple Thief live a couple of years back. He is the only drummer, for me, that could give Mr Peart a run for his money.

So many great drummers, but there’s a certain elegance in Gavin’s precision. Very musical.

On the day of the coronation, I thought this was appropriate. God bless Stormzy.

Fifty years ago today, May 9th 1973 I saw my first gig. I was 13 and Slade were my favourite band. I still love listening to this stuff.

I know Quiet Riot had a hit with this, but the original is way better.

They covered ‘‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now’’ too. I was always amazed at how much Kevin DuBrow sounded like Noddy. Of course now this got me thinking about Quiet Riot and how we lost Kevin several years back and of course Randy Rhodes who founded QR and went on to join Ozzy Osbourne.

Quiet Riot are linked - kinda - to another English band, the Clash. One Clash single called White Riot but hilariously, a French DJ radio mis-heard and announced it as ‘Quiet Riot’, much to the amusement of everybody on this side of the channel.

A great live version here, recorded at Winterland in Frisco in 1975.

I may be the only one who finds this enjoyable, but I just discovered Julian Lage and think he deserves to be heard. Happy Friday.
